Parish Pastoral Council of Ss. Peter and Paul’s Parish to Host Community Mental Health Awareness Event in Athlone

The Parish Pastoral Council of Ss. Peter and Paul’s Parish (Athlone, Drum, and Clonown) is proud to announce a special community Mental Health Awareness event aimed at supporting individuals and families facing mental health challenges.

Over the past few months, the Pastoral Council has engaged in meaningful discussions regarding mental health and the active role the faith community can play in offering support, raising awareness, and connecting parishioners with vital local resources.

To turn these discussions into positive action, the Council is inviting the entire community to a free Mental Health Awareness evening on Thursday, September 24th, from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm at The Shamrock Lodge Hotel, Athlone.

The event will feature guest speakers dedicated to mental health and wellbeing, highlighted by keynote speaker Dr. Síle Carney, Clinical Psychologist. The presentations will be followed by an interactive question-and-answer session, giving attendees the opportunity to engage directly with the speakers and ask questions in a supportive environment.

Speaking on the initiative, Fr. John Deignan, Parish Priest, emphasized the importance of community collaboration in addressing mental health:

“We are organizing this event to raise awareness and highlight the support services available within our community for those who may be struggling. We encourage everyone to bring this event to the attention of your school, workplace, sports club, or social group as we work together to create an environment where everyone feels comfortable reaching out for help.”

All members of the public—regardless of background or faith—are warmly invited to attend this important evening of connection, education, and support.
