|A thought for today
• His people, said the prophet, preferred formal religion to honesty and justice. Now, just as Isaiah had been personally cleansed through the burning coal scorching his lips, his people needs cleansing too. They need to change their behaviour to mirror their new orientation (Isa 1:16-17).
• Only if they practice justice to the poor can their worship of God have real value..
• He promises that, “if you feed the hungry and satisfy the needs of the afflicted, your light shall rise in the darkness..” (58:10.) Some effort to promote justice is an absolute imperative, if we are to please our God.
