From Call to Transfiguration – A Journey of Trust, Hope, and Light
The readings for today draw us along a single thread that weaves through Scripture:
God’s invitation to step out of the familiar, the courage to proclaim that invitation,
and the promise that the journey ends in radiant transformation.
1. Abram’s Leap of Faith (Genesis 12)
Abram’s story begins with a simple, yet staggering command: “Go.” He leaves behind a life he knows, stepping into the unknown because God promises to make him a blessing. For many of us, “going” today looks like cutting back on a habit, reaching out to someone we’ve been avoiding, or daring to imagine a different future for our families and communities. Lent is the season in which the Spirit whispers, “I am with you,” inviting us to trust God’s promise even when the road ahead is foggy.
2. Timothy’s Bold Witness (2 Timothy 1)
Paul’s letter to Timothy is a reminder that the Christian path is never a private affair. “Do not be ashamed”—the Holy Spirit asks us to wear our faith openly, even when it feels costly. The “glorious appearing of our Lord” that Paul anticipates is not a distant, eschatological event alone; it is already breaking into our lives through acts of love, justice, and mercy. When we share our hope, we become part of the very transfiguration that the disciples witnessed on the mountain.
3. The Transfiguration (Matthew 17)
The disciples see their Teacher bathed in divine light, flanked by Moses and Elijah—symbols of the Law and the Prophets. This moment is a preview of the Resurrection, a glimpse of the ultimate transformation that awaits every believer. It also reassures us that our present struggles and “mountain climbs” have a purpose: they are the crucible in which our hearts are refined, preparing us to reflect Christ’s radiant glory.
