Five of the last six Sundays since Epiphany have had readings from Isaiah, and all of those five have used light as a symbol and image. Two of the gospels have used it as well. In today’s Gospel we are told directly that we are light for the world and salt for the earth. The power of light comes from God, and though we can see its effect, our limited human mind cannot comprehend it.
