Recruitment of new Altar Servers
|Dear Parents / Guardians,
I write to you today with a meaningful opportunity for your child to become more deeply involved in the life of our parish community.
I invite you to consider enrolling your child as an altar server in the parish.
Altar serving is a truly special ministry, offering children a unique chance to step closer to the altar and play a vital, active role in our sacred liturgy. It’s more than just assisting during Mass; it’s an opportunity for young people to deepen their understanding of our faith, develop a sense of responsibility, and experience the joy of serving God and their community.
Through this ministry, children learn valuable life skills such as punctuality, focus, teamwork, and quiet reverence. They gain confidence by performing duties in front of the congregation, and they form new friendships with fellow servers and a closer connection with their priests and the wider parish family. Many lifelong vocations and a profound love for the Church have begun at the altar.
We understand that you may have questions, or your child might feel a little nervous about taking on such a role. Please rest assured: Full training will be provided before they begin serving. Fr. Joseph will patiently guide them through every step, teaching them the traditions, the practicalities, and the spiritual significance of each duty, ensuring they feel confident and prepared. No prior experience is necessary – just an open heart and a willingness to learn!
This invitation is open to boys and girls who have received their First Holy Communion and feel called to serve. It’s a commitment, certainly, but a wonderfully rewarding one that offers immense spiritual and personal growth.
If your child expresses an interest, or if you simply wish to learn more about this beautiful ministry, please do not hesitate to speak with me or any of the priests after Mass, or contact the parish office at your convenience. We would be delighted to answer any questions you may have and welcome your child into this important service.
Thank you for considering this wonderful opportunity for your child to grow in faith and service within our parish family.
Kindest regards,
Fr. John Deignan
Parish Priest
